BPOA Community Involvement
BPOA/Condors Partnership

The Bakersfield Police Officers Association is excited to have partnered with the Bakersfield Condors professional hockey team for the upcoming 2008/2009 season. Through the partnership, the BPOA will be giving back to the community by sponsoring child-friendly community organizations (Boy Scouts, etc.) for special nights at the Rabobank Arena. We will sponsor a different organization at every home game.

The Condors are now affiliated with the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League, the very first NHL affiliation for the Condors. Look for the caliber of play with the Condors, and in the ECHL in general, to be stepped up this season.

The Condors organization has always been active in the community, especially with children’s groups. The men and women of the BPOA are proud to be a partner with the Bakersfield Condors organization and we look forward to a successful season!

Chilis Tip-a-Cop

The recent "Tip-a-Cop" night at Chili's restaurant was an enormous success! Over $2,200 was raised for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. The BPOA would like to thank everybody who came out on September 22nd and supported the event. Special thanks goes out to the Chili's staff who graciously gave up their tips that night to assist us in meeting our goal. Their incredible patience with the unqualified and inexperienced police officers was truly appreciated.

Upcoming Events

Members of the Bakersfield Police Officers Association, in association with Chili's Restaurant (8950 Rosedale Hwy.), will be waiting tables on Monday, September 22, 2008 for the inaugural charity "Tip-a-Cop" night. All gratuities "earned" will go to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, where children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases are treated regardless of their family's ability to pay. Please mark your calendars and come on down to Chili's to support a worthy cause and see your local police officers "serving" our community in a different way.

BPOA Golf Tournament Raises $14,000 for the Society for Disabled Children

The annual BPOA golf tournament was a big success once again. The tourney was held on June 13th at the Rio Bravo Country Club and raises money for the Society for Disabled Children. This year’s event raised over $14,000 for this special charity. Thanks to all the golfers and sponsors who helped make this event a success.

BPOA Raises Over $11,000 for American Cancer Society

The BPOA supported this year’s annual American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life by being a platinum sponsor and fielding a team of 32 walkers. In total, over $11,000 in donations were made to the ACS on behalf of the BPOA. Special awards went to the BPOA team’s top three earners: Julie Dickson, Patti Taylor, and Lisa Agerton. Thanks to everybody who participated and helped to support this worthwhile cause.

Giving Back to the Community

Aside from their duty to serve and protect, the men and women of the BPOA take pride in giving back to those organizations who rely on the charitable nature of our community. Of particular interest is supporting those organizations and participating in events that benefit our youth.

Each year, the BPOA contributes to the Society for Disabled Children, providing scholarships to send youngsters to Camp Blue Jay. Located in Tehachapi Mountain Park, campers enjoy activities such as riding horses, swimming, biking and building life-long friendships with other children who share similar challenges.

Another organization held near and dear to the hearts of the BPOA membership is the Childrens Miracle Network. The BPOA's generous giving helps children of every age and background overcome diseases and serious injuries without having to travel out of town to receive medical care.
